I am Mick Matters.
Mick's interest in electronic music began in the late 1980's. Influenced by the EBM and noise scenes of that era, he fronted and took turns programming for local industrial / experimental bands. Throughout the early 1990's, Mick's musical vision widened to include the techno and other styles then associated with the blossoming rave scene. By the mid 1990's, he was fully emersed in this subculture, managing one of the legendary local rave clubs as well as his own record store. During much of this period, Mick's focus was on the DJing side of electronic music. He held multi-year residencies at two of Oklahoma City's most notorious night clubs and began to earn a reputation for his technical DJing.
As the 1990's drew to a close, Mick resigned from the club scene and began working, producing and DJing with the Pirate Audio Sound System. This change redirected his focus back to the techno sounds that had influenced him many years before. In 2003, Mick released his first 12" record on Phrantique under the name Justin Case. He continued working with Pirate Audio throughout the decade, organizing parties and appearing on compilations released through the collective's label, Pin23. In 2012, Mick recruited Pirate Audio founder, Jack Acid, to co-produce the second Phrantique vinyl release. This launched a series of five releases for Mick through 2013 and 2014 under the name Osc.
Now producing under the name Mick Matters, Mick is delving deeper into sonic no man's land with further techno-based experimentations into broken beats, acid and synthetic rhythms.
